Jorden Le Long

Head Coach

I have a passion for sport and played cricket and tennis from a young age. I knew a pathway in teaching and instruction was for me so I decided to do a Bachelor of Sports Coaching at the University of Canterbury.

My tennis coaching career really kicked off in my early 20’s, coaching in Christchurch before moving up to Auckland. I moved through the ranks graduating from an Assistant to Senior Coach, and now finally a Head Coach. I currently hold an ITF Level 2 Club Professional Qualification which is well recognized and is regarded as one of the higher coaching degrees you can have.

In my spare time I enjoy playing Inter-Club, spending time with friends, going for walks in nature, and other sports such as Golf, Table Tennis, and Basketball.

I’m really looking forward to getting to know the members at Glendowie, and contributing to the success of the club, especially with Social Nights and Junior and Senior Coaching. Please feel free to come and say hi and introduce yourself.

I first picked up a racket at the age of 9, shortly after moving from Switzerland to New Zealand. My love for the game has grown immensely since then. I started off playing once a week that has now turned into 3 or 4 days a week.

I learnt the game at my local tennis club in Glendowie, but also like to analyze the big player’s games on youtube and having a hit with friends. I play for the Glendowie junior Interclub team, and I have played many tournaments and satalilte games. I have come second in club champs for 3 years.

In the Term 1 holidays of 2019, I was lucky enough to participate in the Tennis New Zealand Assistant Coaching Course. Over the 3 days, I learnt many different skills, such as what activities to choose according to the skill level of the children, and how to make the kids have fun and enjoy their time on the tennis court while learning new skills. I love sharing my passion with others and help them achieve their goals.

Hope to see you soon on the tennis court!

Assistant Coach

I first started playing tennis at the age of 5, in the boiling sun in Rarotonga. Initially it was just a Saturday morning, but I loved it, so I soon found myself playing 5 days a week. When I was 7 I travelled back to New Zealand for my first tournament. New Zealand tournaments became our training focus in Rarotonga, and we started traveling back to New Zealand for different tournaments each year. We had a lot of fun!

When I was 12 we returned to New Zealand where I continued playing tournaments a joined the Glendowie Tennis Club. Along with tennis I also started playing cricket and hockey. At the start of 2019 I was offered the opportunity to assist coaching at Glendowie Tennis Club and in April completed the Assistant Coaching Course.

I hope to see you on the tennis courts soon!

Assistant Coach

I started playing tennis when I was 7 years old. I immediately fell in love with the game and wanted to improve so asked my parents if I could have coaching. I became a member of Glendowie Tennis Club and have played there ever since. I have made many friends there and enjoy playing for their U16 Interclub Team. I also enjoy the satellite tournaments over the winter season.

In 2019 I completed the Tennis NZ Assistant Coaching course and was given the opportunity to coach for Kiwi Tennis. This was a great course for helping me to understand how to match activities to the ability of the children. In my spare time, I also play field hockey and underwater hockey which helps with year-round fitness.

Coaching at Glendowie Tennis Club is great. There is a real family-friendly atmosphere and I love seeing young people getting into the sport, making friends and developing quickly. It is amazing to see people progress throughout the sport and them having fun whilst doing so.

I look forward to seeing you on the Glendowie tennis courts soon!
